Historia i rozwój turystyki - coś co powinien znać każdy turysta. Jeżeli uwielbiasz podróże to musisz poznać krótki opis rozwoju turystyki.

Możemy spokojnie zaryzykować stwierdzenie, że turystyka ma bardzo starą i szacowną historię. Nawet tak starą jak istnieje historia. Przecież już człowiek starożytny podróżował chociaż oczywiście nie tak daleko jak obecnie. Jednak podróżował to pewne i najczęściej do obiektów związanych z religią. Człowiek średniowiecza podróżował również do miejsc kultu religijnego. W tym wypadku najczęściej do Jerozolimy. W związku z rozwojem nauki często podróżowano także do miast, które zajmowały się kształceniem.

W kolejnej epoce nastąpił ogromny rozwój turystyki. Wiadomo, że zaczęto odkrywać nowe lądy, dotąd nieznane. Do XVIII w. uformowały się pierwsze ośrodki turystyczne. Co ciekawe pierwsze biuro turystyczne powstało w 1841 r. i nosiło nazwę Thomas Cook. Wiek XIX przynosi również pierwsze stowarzyszenia osób zajmujących się hotelarstwem i kluby związane z turystyką.

Na ziemiach polskich powstają pierwsze schroniska, w 1909 powstaje Tatrzańskie Ochotnicze Pogotowie Ratunkowe. W okresie międzywojennym powstaje również w Polsce Biuro Podróży ORBIS oraz 10 lat przed wybuchem II wojny światowej powstają Polskie Linie Lotnicze.

Okres PRL-u to czasy spowolnienia branży turystycznej w Polsce. Popierano przede wszystkim turystykę masową, dlatego też w tym okresie utworzono Fundusz Wczasów Pracowniczych.

Po upadku komunizmu Polacy znowu mogli się cieszyć swobodą turystyczną i do chwili obecnej mogą wybierać gdzie chcą jechać i nie narzuca nam się żadnych ograniczeń. Obecnie turysta coraz większą wagę przykłada do jakości swojego życia i również do turystyki. Dlatego też branża turystyczna chcąc dalej funkcjonować musi się rozwijać, gdyż musi spełniać wymagania coraz bardziej wybrednego turysty, znającego bardzo dobrze rynek.
