Na wpływ klimatu w tym regionie świata wpływ mają dwa monsuny (wiatry). Z północnego wschodu wieje wiatr suchy i chłodny, z południowego zachodu gorący i wilgotny. Zależnie od monsunu wyróżnia się dwie podstawowe pory roku: suchą i deszczową. (Niektóre źródła wyróżniają trzy pory roku: zimną, gorącą i deszczową). Pora sucha obejmuje mniej więcej miesiące od listopada do kwietnia, deszczowa pozostałe od maja do października. Średnie temperatury są bardzo zbliżone przez cały rok, choć podczas pory deszczowej bardziej dokuczliwe ze względu na wysoką wilgotność powietrza. Nie ma najchłodniejszego, ani najgorętszego miesiąca, średnie temperatury wahają się od 23°C do 33°C, tym niemniej upały odczuwa się najbardziej w marcu, kwietniu i maju (pora gorąca). W maju występuje też najwięcej burz, niemal co drugi dzień. W porze suchej klimat jest niezwykle łagodny i przyjazny człowiekowi. Istnieją natomiast znaczne różnice w opadach, od 20 mm w lutym, do 400 mm we wrześniu. O ile w lutym są średnio 4 dni deszczowe, o tyle we wrześniu 23. W trakcie pory deszczowej, czyli monsunu południowo-zachodniego, pogoda jest bardzo zmienna i trudno przewidywalna, morze bywa silnie rozkołysane, woda nie jest tak przezroczysta, jak w porze suchej. Często zdarza się rano pogoda słoneczna i ulewy popołudniami, bywa jednak i odwrotnie. Długotrwałe, wielodniowe deszcze są rzadkością. Od maja do sierpnia przeważają krótkie ulewne deszcze, jedynie wrzesień i październik bywają ciężkie do zniesienia z powodu najsilniejszych opadów. Temperatura wody na Phuket nigdy nie spada poniżej 20°C, zwykle utrzymuje się około 27°C – 30°C.
Biorąc pod uwagę warunki klimatyczne najlepszym okresem do zwiedzania są miesiące od listopada do marca. Jeśli wybierasz się na wakacje na Phuket przez pięć miesięcy możesz się spodziewać słońca, rzadkich opadów, umiarkowanie wysokich temperatur, średniej wilgotności i spokojnej, przezroczystej wody oceanu. Wiąże się to jednak z wyższymi wydatkami – ceny wszelkich atrakcji, noclegów i transportu są wówczas znacznie, czasem wielokrotnie wyższe, niż w miesiącach najmniej przyjaznych turystyce, czyli we wrześniu i październiku.
